Lesson Summery

Students will build a database to describe Jesus13 apostles.  In creating the database they will learn about who the apostles were and why they did some of the things they did. 

Learning Objective and Computer Function

Students will be able to identify the 13 apostles of Jesus.  Students will be able to give helpful information about each apostle. 

1)       Identify the 13 Apostles.

a)       Use the Bible to Identify the 13 Apostles

b)        Find books on the Apostles.

2)       Identify 5 traits of each apostle.

a)       Use Bible to identify traits.

b)       Find Websites on the Apostles.

3)       Create a database listing this information. 

a)       Use MS Access® to Create a database. 

Problem 

Problem Nature

When reading your Bible you forget information and it is hard to see the importance of the details they are telling you.  

Problem Data

Student will have to find out who the 13 Apostles are and other information concerning each Apostle.  They will find this information with the bible, book, and recourses such as encyclopedias and web sites. 

Notes on Using Data

Students need to learn how to break Biblical information into something they can understand.  This information format may be too large for a 31/2 floppy so a hard drive space (server or not) should be available. 

Problem Statement

When reading your Bible you forget about each Apostle and who they are.  We are going to create a database for you to keep track of each Apostle. 

Activities

Each student will work with a partner one will search libraries the other Internet.  After that the students will switch roles.  This will hopefully show the student the importance of a Bible study partner.   

Activities before using the Computer

·         Read their Bible to find the 13 Apostles and may find some of the traits of the Apostles.

·         Read books on apostles and find information.

·         Prepare a paper on the answers from think sheets. 

Activities While at the Computer

  • Use search engines the find web site on apostles.
  • Create a database entering the information
  • Use the Word Processor to write paper on the answers from think sheet. 

Activities After Using the Computer

  • View their Charts and evaluate their usefulness. 

Supporting Activities

  • Show some charts that have already been done to helpfully show Biblical information.

Starting your first Access Information.

  1. Once you have opened Access, select blank database then tell the computer were you want it to be stored and click create.
  2. Click on Create table in design view then list each piece of information you will be looking for.
  3. Once you are done with list Save your Table and this is what it will look like
  4. Fill in your information into the database on each apostle then save it and click on and the Create report by using wizard.
  5. Select the fields you will use, in the next menus you can manipulate it to how you want the report to look.  Once you are done click finish, review the report and fix any mistakes, then print.
